Objectives

The Unity in Diversity project aimed to strengthen students’ and teachers’ sense of European identity by exploring shared traditions, languages, and values across partner countries. It encouraged participants to see diversity as a strength and recognize common historical, cultural, and social links. Key goals included fostering active citizenship through the discovery of European traditions, promoting language learning via real-life immersion in French, English, German, and Spanish, and increasing students' motivation and confidence in using foreign languages. The project also focused on environmental awareness, encouraging students to reflect on how traditions can evolve sustainably and to adopt eco-responsible practices within their schools. Finally, it was meant to strengthen cross-border collaboration, allowing partner schools to share best practices, build lasting connections, and cultivate a deeper sense of belonging to the European community for both learners and educators.

Background

The Erasmus+ project "Unity in Diversity" (UID) was launched by partner schools with a shared history of successful collaboration. It aimed to build on their strong Erasmus+ dynamic, respond to growing interest from teachers and students for intercultural exchange, and provide 14–16-year-olds—especially those from modest backgrounds—with new opportunities to travel and engage with European cultures after the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic. The UDD project addressed several key needs identified within the participating schools, including the active use of multiple languages during teamwork and exchanges, greater awareness of European traditions and values, and access to intercultural learning experiences without financial barriers. Most importantly, it aimed to engage students in eco-responsible thinking and encourage the sharing of sustainable practices between schools across different countries.
