Objectives

Mobility is a key element of the Erasmus+ project “Girls in 21st century Europe”. It enables girls and young men to experience life and learning in contexts different from their home countries. By taking part in intercultural exchanges, the young people have had the opportunity to discover new cultures, meet different people, get to know women from all walks of life through personal accounts, and develop their independence. Mobility also enabled the girls and young men to strengthen their language skills, discover new professional fields and develop their self-confidence. Through their mobility experiences, the young people also acquired intercultural and social skills, such as communication, problem-solving and collaboration. With regard to the project's central theme, the mobility provided an opportunity to exchange views with teachers, parents and local political decision-makers on the challenges facing girls and young women in contemporary society, and to promote gender equality.

Background

The initial objectives were to prepare young girls and boys for a change in mentality about girls' school careers, the fight against harassment of girls, and the need for women to strike the right balance between their professional careers and their personal lives. The aim was to put these young people in touch with active people with whom they could exchange views, find out about their careers and encourage them to follow in their footsteps. In terms of career guidance, it was also a question of inspiring young girls to surpass themselves and go beyond gender stereotypes. The project also promoted gender equality and non-discrimination, European identity and values, and citizenship. The encounters in each country were very enriching, both in terms of responding to the theme and getting to know each other and different ways of life. This project was aimed at young people under 17 on average, and they experienced Europe, its different facets, different lifestyles and different situations for women in each country?
