Objectives

In implementing the project, we wanted to awaken students' curiosity, which is the beginning of the concrete construction of European citizenship, motivate them to study and increase their knowledge outside the classroom. This would enable students to be more open-minded towards the other inhabitants of Europe. We also wanted to include students with fewer opportunities, to prevent social exclusion and strengthen social cohesion. With distance projects, another aim is for students and teachers to communicate better in English, and to discover enriching interculturality and the key skills of European citizenship. To work remotely, the use of digital tools is essential, for both students and teachers, so digital and IT skills increase and are of higher quality. Long-term collaboration between teachers and students is also targeted, with in-house projects and students who can envisage studying and then working in Europe, having built up a network. Working methods are innovative, dynamic and inclusive, and teachers are committed.

Background

The project was born of a strong desire on the part of the 3 partners. Drawing on our respective experience of international projects, we decided to submit a KA210 project. Our needs were to continue working with our students within a European framework, to prepare them for the cultural diversity that is essential, and to give them broader identities. What's more, we wanted to ensure the continuity of our Erasmus+ partnerships. We therefore chose the theme of art to appeal to the students' sensibilities, to interest them and get them to work towards acquiring common values and becoming European citizens. So we needed to get out of the traditional classroom and look for links between historical heritage and shared memory in our partner countries, their traces of the past through art and creative workshops. Discovering our cultural heritage and our collective European memory helps prepare and integrate our students into a changing society where values and cultures meet. The students have become more involved and have developed a more active educational approach.
