We had several objectives to achieve. Firstly, we wanted to develop the attraction for education and vocational training. This objective was common to the Spanish high school and the French high school. For the Italian high school, the objective was more to introduce learners to the practical side of their teaching which is rather theoretical. The model project lent itself well to this objective. Secondly, we wanted to increase the quality of the work of our young people and better promote their know-how. The European train project could make it possible to achieve these objectives because we were going to put the learners in "project" mode with a result objective expected by the city of RUFFEC. Finally, one of our objectives was to develop among our young people common civic values and the desire to get involved, to “get active”.
We applied for this project because we wanted to go further in the relationship with our Spanish partner. Then, an Italian teacher colleague told us about the opportunity to work with an Italian artistic high school, which allowed us to add a touch of design and complementarity with the first two high schools involved in the project. We therefore had a common desire to work on a European project with our learners. We took advantage of a request from the town of RUFFEC to the French high school to launch the idea of this “European train”. Indeed, the town of RUFFEC wanted to have a large wooden train made to use it during the town's various cultural/festive events. We felt that it would be a great project carried out by all the stakeholders and their learners. The idea was also of course to highlight Europe and its humanist values.
