Objectives

The project's objectives were to empower senior citizens to contribute to the fight against climate change, particularly through social media and the sharing of DIY projects. The project aims to demonstrate the role of senior citizens in building a greener and more sustainable Europe, to promote existing eco-friendly practices already mastered by senior citizens, and to pass on these practices to other generations via social media. Finally, the project is part of efforts to bridge the digital divide between generations.

Background

We applied for this project because the visible effects of climate change require collective action. However, senior citizens represent a resource that is still underutilised. Although they are often perceived as less committed to ecological transition, they have valuable experience in repairing, reusing and reducing waste, which has long been part of their daily practices. Our project therefore responds to two main needs: on the one hand, to involve senior citizens (aged 60 and over, who will make up nearly a third of the EU population by 2050) more in the fight against climate change by promoting their knowledge and giving them the means to pass it on to younger generations. On the other hand, it aims to strengthen their digital skills by teaching them how to film (video has now established itself as the best way to convey ideas) and share their sustainable practices via social media. By enabling senior citizens to use modern technologies, the project transfers their knowledge of sustainability to other generations while empowering them to play their part in building a greener digital Europe.
