Objectives

The aim of the project was to design European tools for children and their educators to improve road safety for cyclists and scooter riders, thereby facilitating the transition to green mobility in line with European Union objectives, and to develop a culture of civic responsibility in cities. The aim was to design materials that would offer several added benefits: they had to be European materials that would raise awareness that all European children share the same concerns. They had to be materials developed in part by children and with children that young people could identify with; they had to be materials for both children and their educators; It had to be tested and disseminated through practical workshops and training sessions. It had to be available and usable on a long-term basis.

Background

The partners noted that the climate situation and energy issues were leading to the development of green mobility and that the use of bicycles and scooters was growing throughout Europe, particularly among children, who are increasingly using them to travel to school or for other journeys. There is therefore a growing need for education not only in road safety but also in civic learning about how to get around. However, existing road safety sessions often only provide schoolchildren with an initial introduction to the good practices they will need to follow when they become motorists, with little specific material available for schoolchildren who use bicycles and scooters. The idea behind the project was therefore to provide educational material accessible to children and trainers that has European added value, as the children have a manual designed through European cooperation and videos shot by children, with children's voices in various landscapes that also allow teachers to convey a European message.
