aim of the project is to offer self-adaptive language learning platforms, i.e. computer systems capable of following and suggesting appropriate personalized language learning courses calculated individually from the performances of each learner. Three fields of linguistic study within the European Union are proposed: Germanic, Romance and Slavic.
The 2018 proposal from the European Commission for a Council recommendation on a comprehensive approach to language teaching and learning highlights, on the one hand, that improving learning can contribute to mutual understanding and mobility within the Union, as well as increasing competitiveness and economic resilience. On the other hand, it recognizes this comprehensive approach as the basis for cognitive and social development in children. This statement reveals a close connection with the policy trajectory that the European Commission and the European Council have been shaping over the past decade, referring to lifelong learning skills, in which linguistic competence aligns with other key competences—citizenship, social, entrepreneurial, cultural, and multicultural, personal fulfillment, employability, and social inclusion. It is not surprising, therefore, that "digital and cultural competence, interaction, and self-expression" are explicitly treated in certain contexts as belonging to the 'language and communication' domain.
