Objectives

The aim of the Unibio and EEEP youth exchanges was to raise young people's awareness of environmental education and gender equality issues. In setting up this youth exchange, we wanted to provide a forum for discussion, exchange and awareness-raising on issues relating to environmental protection, eco-citizenship and gender equality. It was therefore essential to encourage participants to ask themselves questions about these issues, and to make them in the dissemination of eco-responsible practices and equality. We wanted to raise participants' awareness of these responsible practices, and to do this we used the various themed activities and gave participants the space to propose their own activities around these two subjects, which created a lively exchange of ideas. We also wanted to highlight the fact that an intercultural dimension needs to be taken into account in the issue of environmental protection and gender equality. Through exchange activities and educational workshops, participants were able to reflect from an intercultural perspective on how to approach the issue of environmental protection and gender equality. Unibio’s goal where created by a group of youngster of the association, and the team, based on the fact that in rural areas, homosexuality and other form of sexuality are still highly discriminated. Also in certain country in Europe, discriminations around sexual identity are still very important, and the youngster do not have safe place to share, learn ,and protect each other. This youth exchange aims to provide a space for young people to understand the differences in sexual identity, learn how to protect themselves, how to fight discrimination, and what kind of resources and cooperation they can organize. Though the project, the link between cooperation system in the nature, and cooperation system between human is the red link. The different way the nature has to cooperate is a source of example for cooperation attitude and strategy in between the participants, and later in society. The fact that this youth exchange about sexual identity is repeted each year, with the same subject but with evolved methods and many changes, aimed as well to identify this project and the association, as a place where people who are facing discrimination know that they can find a project adapted to their needs and profile. This aim is fulfilled, as after two edition, local youth facing discrimination have joined the association because of Unibio, and are asking to participate in the next edition. The youth exchange YES was based on the fact that there is few possibility in rural areas for the youngster to find opportunities to have influence on society, and are not in relation to key people and important actors of their environment. The goal of this youth exchange was to question the different forms of civil participation, the leverages and obstacles toward youth participation in order to enhance and capacitate the youngster to participate in the civil life. Through exchange activities and educational workshops, the participants were able to reflect from an intercultural point of view on how to approach the issue of environmental protection and gender equality. We also wanted to establish a dialogue between the participants and the local population that would enrich the participants' questioning of the issues and have an impact at local level. We prepared this project with a view to making the participants question our lifestyles and consumption patterns and making them aware that this has an impact on the environment, on health and on a certain social model. Environmental concerns and gender equality issues are still topical. These issues are of great concern to young people because of the environmental crisis and the threats to women's rights in many countries.
