Objectives

The Centre de Beaumotte association, with the support of Solidarités Jeunesses, has been organizing youth exchanges for teenagers or adults for many years. Through this program, we try to create spaces where European participants learn to get involved in collective projects, and where they experience solidarity, tolerance, respect for others and mutual aid on a daily basis. Our pedagogy aims to teach them to think for themselves, and to take a critical look at the world around them. The themes of these exchanges, diverse and multiple, are based on the pedagogy of unformal education and on respect for a minimum of diversity (social, gender, life background, etc.). These projects are a great success, with a high occupancy rate. We believe that the balance between support and freedom of action, and between formal and informal time, is the key. However, we have noticed two things over the last three years or so. Firstly, it's more difficult than before to get young people involved in our projects. There seem to be real obstacles to forming mixed groups, and this reduces our possibilities of welcoming them and working with them in a mobile way. And yet, working with 15-30 year-olds means preparing them for civic participation, solidarity and peace between peoples. They are the next generation who will be called upon to make decisions in relation to the world around them, to get involved in civil society, to take part in associations and to make a difference in their environment. It is important to create alternative spaces where they can discuss, exchange and reflect, in a united Europe. Secondly, it's becoming difficult to find new partner associations with similar requirements to our own. While we continue to work with long-standing international colleagues, we sometimes wish to diversify the countries with which we set up projects, and this is not always easy. With this in mind, we have proposed this seminar. Open to all youth actors, we wanted to open up a space for exchange, reflection and creation around Erasmus+ exchanges. We are convinced of the positive effects and impact of these projects on participants and local communities alike. It was our duty to bring together people involved in youth mobility on a voluntary or professional basis, to share our experiences and visions, and to feed off each other's reflections and observations. This seminar took place at our association, Centre de Beaumotte, the Bourgogne Franche Comté delegation of Solidarités Jeunesses, from October 8 to 15, 2023. The objectives were to take the time, between professionals and volunteers in the youth education sector, to ask ourselves the right questions. We're all too often “caught up” in our day-to-day work, and there aren't many opportunities to take a step back and analyze our practices collectively. We wanted to take the time to share our observations, whether some of them were shared or whether we were alone with this kind of difficulty. We wanted to try and find solutions collectively. Finally, through this seminar, we also want to take the opportunity to set up new partnerships, and imagine innovative projects together.
