Objectives

The project was carried out within the framework of our Erasmus+ Youth Accreditation, which defines the long-term strategy of Youth Express Network / Réseau Express Jeunes to promote inclusion, participation and empowerment of young people with fewer opportunities. It took place in a context where youth and youth work had been strongly affected by the pandemic. Young people across Europe faced greater risks of exclusion, poverty, unemployment, interrupted education and deteriorating mental health. At the same time, many youth organisations had lost operating grants, volunteers and social capital, while the civic space for independent NGOs was shrinking. Against this background, the project aimed to restore the strength of youth work, to reconnect young people and youth organisations after years of limited mobility, and to highlight the essential role that transnational cooperation plays in building inclusive societies. The objectives of the project were clear and consistent with our strategic plan “Vision 2030”. First, we wanted to demonstrate the impact of youth work at local and European levels for social inclusion during and after the pandemic. Second, we sought to relaunch networking projects and partnerships among our members and partners in order to exchange good practices and develop innovative approaches to inclusion. Third, the project aimed to build the competences of youth workers and young leaders to plan, implement and evaluate projects that promote participation and equality, both online and offline. Another important objective was to strengthen the capacity of our network to advocate for better access to social rights for all young people, by equipping member organisations with knowledge, tools and opportunities for cooperation. Finally, we wanted to inform and inspire local organisations about the possibilities of Erasmus+ as a tool for participation and inclusion, going beyond its well-known role as a student mobility programme. These objectives were translated into youth exchanges, training courses, seminars, blended activities and capacity-building sessions that combined European cooperation with local impact. Participants developed skills, gained confidence and experienced solidarity across borders, while also being supported to bring this learning back to their own organisations and communities. In doing so, the project contributed directly to the goals of the EU Youth Strategy to engage, connect and empower young people. It also reinforced the idea that Erasmus+ is a powerful instrument to foster equality, dialogue and active citizenship. In summary, the project responded to the urgent challenges faced by young people and youth organisations in the aftermath of the pandemic. It provided opportunities for disadvantaged youth to learn, participate and express themselves, while supporting youth workers and organisations to strengthen their capacity, resilience and European cooperation. By connecting local realities with European perspectives, the project aimed to ensure that young people are better included in their societies and better prepared to shape the future of Europe.
