Objectives

The ECO CHALLENGE project organised from 8 to 16 July 2023 is a youth exchange project on the theme of sustainable development between an organisation in Malta and the town of Saint Pierre lès Elbeuf in Normandy. This youth exchange programme between France and Malta offered many positive benefits, both for the individual participants and for the companies in both countries. Our ambition was to offer a first experience of intercultural encounters in our commune, between young people from 2 European countries. Through its objectives, organisation and popular education approaches, it aimed to encourage the development of human and social skills, and to bring out and enhance the abilities and knowledge of each of the young people involved. The project was also an opportunity to discover the potential for personal or collective commitment to the future of our planet, and in particular to get involved in local actions. Finally, by meeting other young participants, young volunteers and the various local players involved, the aim was to show the different possibilities in terms of training, studies or even jobs in the SD professions. The aim of the exchange was to : Enable each young person to play the role of "ambassador" for environmental protection and sustainable development. To sharpen young people's knowledge of environmental protection, local eco-responsible practices and the natural environment, based on the principle that "Respecting our natural environment means above all learning to recognise its richness". To give young people the opportunity to take an active part in the protection and enhancement of a natural site (for this exchange, the town's communal areas), while discovering local biodiversity and meeting the people involved. Encourage young citizens to express their concerns and hopes regarding environmental protection, and to share their experiences and eco-citizen practices in the two countries, with a view to taking into account the future of the planet in their life plans. Contribute to a significant improvement in eco-responsible behaviour in the places where young people live, by moving from a narrow circle to a wider circle by mobilising (or setting an example for) the other young people around them in their local communities, at school or college, in sporting activities, etc. Establish a long-term collaboration, based on the exchange of ideas and practices, between the young people of France and our Maltese friends by taking a very practical approach to living together, the values of respect for differences and mutual understanding, and thus combating prejudice and xenophobic or racist attitudes. Develop the language skills of English and French, both of which were used for interpersonal communication and in the written materials used to present and promote the project. Learn how to make better use of digital communication and documentary research tools to support a project.
