Sixteen young students from Bègles stayed in Madrid area in July 2022 by a stifling hot temperature of about 44 degrees. After their return home they asked us to organize a stay in France in 2023 for young Spaniards in order to make them discover the issues of global climate change in our region. The project took place from 1/06 to 31/12/2023 following a programme ERASMUS+ « young people exchange ». Our wish was to favour mutual communication by the means of debates, thematic workshops, and multicultural parties we had prepared with our partner the « Maison de l’Europe des Landes » WIPSEE. We wished to develop their aptitude to acquire noformal and informal learning skills, as well as the consciousness of European values, wiping out prejudices and stereotypes. We also made them aware of present social issues such as sex equality and violence against women in order to guard against it. The stay took place from 5/07 to 14/07/2023. As a complement we appealed to professionals like : ASTRIA, Bordeaux waste treatment plant ( waste recycling and sustainable consuming) CIDFF of Gironde ( gender violence) ONF ( National Forestry Commission) in Soulac ( retreat of coast line) While visiting Bordeaux the young people could notice the heritage damage brought about by climate change. Then they saw the environment disaster caused by the passing of the Tour de France. They went to Soulac, the first French commune to be impacted by climate change and they learned how coastal communes were fighting against the problem. The intercultural dimension of the stay allowed the opening to others and the developing of social and individual skills : self confidence, autonomy, ability to take initiatives… Thematic activities counterbalanced sports activities ( surfing, biking, tournaments) The stay was very constructive and exceptionally fraternal. From now on all these young people have the feeling of being true European citizens. To our satisfaction our goal was achieved.
