The ‘CBO – It’s BEAUTIFUL!’ project was aimed at 26 young Austrians, French and Greeks aged 15 to 25 and their accompanying people which took place in Bad Aussee, in the rural region of Salzkammergut, the European Cultural Capital 2024. Eleven of these young people have disabilities. The activity used inclusive dance to create meetings and connections between young people from different situations, backgrounds and cultures. The context of the ‘CBO – It’s BEAUTIFUL!’ project was: • Geographic: Receive 3 groups of participants and artists from three European countries in Austria • Social: Bringing together people of all ages and from all social backgrounds to promote understanding of European citizenship and welcoming of all. • Artistic: Ensuring everyone can express themselves through art and during speaking time. We seek to change attitudes by giving participants a deep understanding of the world of people with disabilities. ‘CBO’ was one of the stages of the overall project ‘Lake- C’est BEAU!’ carried by compagnie DK-BEL, as part of the programming of the European Capital of Culture Salzkammergut 2024. Involving local youths with fewer opportunities during this year of cultural and artistic exchanges was a desire shared by the ECOC artistic direction and DK-BEL Company. Addressed specifically to youths through a project open to Europe and coming together with others joins the common thread to promote accessibility to Art and culture for all in a practical role or as a spectator. This need to turn towards the other and outwards is the common philosophy of the three partner structures. CBO sought to overcome any difficulties arising from a disability situation, an urban environment or economic disadvantage so that everyone could find their mode of artistic expression. It was an opportunity to bring together diverse worlds and cultural entities. The ‘CBO- It’s BEAUTIFUL!’ project reaches each of us beyond cultures and disabilities, it aims to give bursts of enthusiasm and solidarity and to allow everyone to participate in positive and constructive relationships, turned towards the ‘Other’.
