Objectives

For those of us who have considered this exchange, it’s trivial that the enlargement of Europe mustn’t tend to uniformity or levelling of cultures, that the plural aspect of Europe must be first on globalization, which is contrary to the cultural diversity of the member countries. However, in a Europe that is becoming increasingly interdependent, common rules are needed. We wanted, at our level, to show that the relations of youth with the Maghreb are to be developed because the Mediterranean basin is the immediate neighbour of Southern Europe, Europe at all. One of our problems : mobility The young people who attend our structures don’t have the experience and knowledge of mobility. However, we believe that mobility can be considered as a skill to be acquired, just as knowing how to read, write or count. The participants who experiences this project are young people who live in a very rural environment, with limited public transport, who have experienced – for the most part – a departure from their daily living place, village, department or region of residence, and sometimes even their country of origin. Our main need : citizenship education We notice that more and more young people are citizens an individualistic, singular and independent attitude. We wanted to try to transmit to them certain notions of citizenship, by helping them to become aware of their responsibilities, their duties and their rights, but also the respect of human beings between them, to live together is an educational way, cooperation, cultural diversity and secularism, knowledge and experience to be in a structured and supportive community… With this project, we wanted to guide the participants in the construction of their European identity (to help them understand how to create their own cultural identity to better understand themselves and others) and return to the fundamentals. We wanted to accompany the participants and put them in reflection so that they could measure that even if they come from different countries, different cultures, different identities and lifestyles, different social and geographical origins, it was possible to find common points, common goals and together they could build and share new things, live moments of common life, create common experiences and memories, and even find a common identity... The theme of our project was: «Food and gastronomy: cultural differences and building a common identity». This theme was used by the declination to discuss the diversity of the cultures of the participating countries, because we see that the common rules that the member countries have set themselves are sometimes contrary to this cultural diversity, for example through food crops and food safety rules (French raw milk cheese, meat preservation in the Nordic countries, etc.). We were sure that when we wanted to create a relationship between young people from different countries, works around gastronomy were prepared. We wanted participants to try to reflect on various topics, broadening their food and gastronomy thinking to the European culture of the member countries: - The Europe of tomorrow’s young people: what prospects? - Is local gastronomy compatible with current European lifestyles? with food safety rules? - Exchanges on countries' food patterns (local realities, economic stakes, cultures and traditions) - Impacts and consideration of food patterns / globalization / new generations - Is the food hygiene problem similar in countries? - Comparison of different cultural approaches to food environment problems? - Can and should we have a common approach to food issues and prospects? And with what democracy, what representativeness in a Europe, especially towards the least populated countries? Finally, we wanted to take advantage of this project to learn to pose, look at the other, its differences, its richness, know the history, the culture of the partners with a parallel of its own identity. We also want young people to gain autonomy through the tremendous lever of cooperation and improve their participation.
