The primary objective of our project was to elevate the capabilities of youth workers in leadership within the scope of non-formal education, developing among them skills necessary for advocating and implementing sustainable practices. We designed the project to empower these individuals with strategic thinking, situational leadership, and effective team management skills. This was intended to enable youth workers to become leaders who inspire and mobilise young people in their communities towards active involvement in initiatives that support sustainable resource management and community resilience. At the heart of this project was our Joyful Leadership training program, which is specifically tailored to enhance the leadership qualities of youth workers. Our goal was to introduce participants to skill sets such as effective communication, emotional intelligence, resilience, and adaptability, traits that are essential for leaders who operate in the challenging contexts of sustainability and community work. By enhancing these leadership skills, we aimed to directly contribute to raising the standard of youth work, making it a robust tool for fostering sustainable development. With this project, we also strived to facilitate a network of leaders capable of implementing innovative practices in their local communities and sharing good practices and expertise from their contexts. We consider this network crucial for the ongoing exchange of leadership strategies and best practices, tailored to various regional contexts of the EU. We see it as a foundational element for the dissemination and amplification of leadership practices that can be applied and utilised across different communities to drive a lasting sustainable change. Furthermore, our focus was on equipping youth organisations with effective leadership strategies that can be integrated into their ongoing community projects. By preparing youth workers with practical, actionable tools and strategic insights, we sought to ensure that the knowledge imparted would not only be retained but also actively applied and disseminated across different parts of the EU.
