Objectives

Status M has more than 14 years of experience in the field of youth work with a special focus on promoting gender justice and preventing violence while working with young men. This project had three main objectives we wanted to achieve. The first objective was to empower young people as allies in the fight for gender justice. Through our activities, we wanted to equip participants with the necessary competencies (knowledge, skills, awareness, etc.) to actively promote and fight for gender equality and justice. Our second objective was to empower youth workers to expand, improve and refresh their approach to youth work. We wanted to organize activities that showed diverse approaches to youth work and look at the well-established network of youth worker organizations that can give unique insights to our professional team. The third objective was to sensitize the community and raise awareness about gender stereotypes, inclusion and activism. We also wanted to share our work and activities with our audience and community in online and real-life spaces to show that there is a need and a want for action and change. We aimed to achieve this by identifying harmful gender norms and deconstructing what gender is in order to build up a more inclusive society. Regarding the implementation, we wanted to create safe, cooperative and productive environments that foster creativity, honesty, and dialogue. We wanted to have discussions full of understanding, empathy and relevance to our topics. Another thing we wanted to address is how gender impacts not just society but an individual. That’s why we wanted to have a lot of reflective activities where participants could internalize much of what was discussed. Challenging those deeply rooted gender expectations and norms can help individuals feel freer and more accepted. We wanted to show participants that gender affects their mental health and give them space to explore their gender expression. Like with all of our activities, we wanted to create a more just, equitable, nonviolent and inclusive society where everyone can actively fight for transformation toward gender justice.
