Objectives

With the project "Breathe green - ecological activity for a sustainable future", we aimed to help young people address the observed problem of illegal dumping in their local area and to provide them with additional knowledge and skills to promote good practices within their community. By establishing collaboration between school/youth and decision-makers, active cooperation was enabled at various levels, highlighting the importance of joint action. The youth had the opportunity to inform decision-makers, local stakeholders, and the wider public about sites of improperly disposed waste and to engage in cooperation that led to jointly solving the problem and successfully conducting volunteer clean-up actions. They also identified several such locations and emphasized the need for their remediation while gaining general knowledge about waste management and proper waste sorting and disposal. Through informal education, we aimed to raise awareness among young people about the biological diversity of their local area and to introduce them to methods of habitat preservation and the reasons for their endangerment. The goals of our project were to: - Raise awareness of the importance of individual responsible behavior and the effects of collective action, - Actively involve young people in problem-solving and community engagement, - Educate about civic education and the functioning of public bodies at the local community level, - Raise awareness of the need for habit changes in the wider community. - Educate young people about biodiversity and the importance of sustainable development in everyday life. The implementation of the project supported the general objectives of the European Union Youth Strategy for the period 2019-2027 by promoting social and civic engagement among young people and providing resources for acquiring life skills. The project also supported some of the 11 European Youth Goals, specifically goals 6, 8, and 10.
