Objectives

Through the implementation of this project, we aimed to enhance the capacities of vocational education by developing an innovative module based on PBL.The goal was to empower both learners and educators—not only in applying the PBL methodology but also in fostering a sustainable learning environment. The project sought to equip students with the ability to develop business ideas that address the ecological, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability. The project aimed to strengthen awareness of individual and collective responsibility towards the environment, promote social inclusion, and prepare learners for the demands of green and sustainable entrepreneurship.Given that the vocational education sector often lags behind in addressing social and environmental priorities due to the dominant economic perspective of the labour market, our objective was to integrate Sustainable Entrepreneurship Education into the regular teaching process. The project activities were focused on developing a contemporary educational approach through which sustainability-related content was implemented into educational institutions.By doing so, the project supported the development of green and environment responsible entrepreneurship.

Background

In our application for this project, we were motivated by the urgent need to take action in response to climate change, biodiversity loss, and the overconsumption of natural resources, as highlighted in the SOER 2021 report by the European Environment Agency. Existing educational systems, particularly within the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, often fail to adequately and appropriately address these and similar challenges due to the prevailing economic perspective of the labour market. Within this context, we identified the need to establish an educational programme focused on sustainability, one that fosters the development of ecological and socially responsible skills. The objective of the project was to develop educational modules based on Project-Based Learning (PBL) to equip students with practical and innovative entrepreneurial skills aligned with the principles of sustainable development. In doing so, we aimed to contribute to the development of the green economy, encourage international cooperation, and empower learners to become entrepreneurial while being mindful of the social and environmental impact of their actions.
