The Eco-Athletes youth exchange project was primarily aimed at raising awareness among young people about the environmental impacts of human activities, emphasizing the role of sports in promoting sustainable living. The project sought to educate youth about the importance of environmental protection and sustainable living, incorporating elements of sports. It also aimed to foster healthy habits, proper nutrition, and an active lifestyle among the participants. In addition to these health and environmental goals, the project strived to promote active citizenship. It encouraged participants to engage with environmental issues actively and to become agents of change within their communities. Another crucial aspect of the project was its focus on building cross-cultural connections, developing key competencies and skills, and supporting the personal and social development of the youth participants. The project addressed several environmental challenges prevalent in the participating European countries, such as air pollution, dependence on fossil fuels, low recycling rates, and deforestation. It also aimed to tackle the issue of low physical activity rates among European youth.
