Our primary aim for this project, as applicant organisation, was to contribute to the goals set out by the EU Biodiversity strategy for 2030, to contribute to increasing our societies' resilience to potential threats such as the impacts of climate change, forest fires, food insecurity, and disease outbreaks - by raising awareness on the importance of activist actions in the field of protection of the environment. Activism could be recognized in civic behavior, advocacy, and campaigning to effect changes in public policies and contribute to community well-being. Interactions with the young people we work with, revealed a genuine concern for environmental issues and a desire to mitigate their effects. While youths displayed an understanding of environmental preservation and the contemporary ecological footprint, they lacked knowledge on how to engage effectively and enact meaningful change. This experience was echoed by all partner organizations involved in our initiative, YfY (CZ), YES (RO) and Iniciativa mladych(SK). In line with this, we have agreed on the necessity to educate young people from our communities on how to take proactive steps in addressing environmental challenges. Goal: To increase awareness and competences of implementing environmental activism campaigns and include more sustainable green practices in youth projects among the partner organizations and their target groups. In the framework of the project we have reached the following objectives: O1. Developed practical knowledge, skills, and positive behaviors/attitudes on how to build and implement a successful environmental non-violent activist campaign among 40 young participants from Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, and Czech Republic; O2. Increased awareness among the 40 young participants on the importance of active participation in civic life and its impact; O3. Improved the eco-friendly measures implemented in international projects by the four partner organizations from the countries mentioned above. The objectives of this project were closely linked to the program's overall goals and reflected the permanent priorities of the program related to youth participation. All four project partners had experience implementing environmental protection, sustainable development, and biodiversity conservation projects. They had been involved in campaigns and actions supporting communities facing environmental threats. The project is aligned with the following EU objectives and priorities: I. E+ guide by improving the level of key competences and skills, particularly their relevance to a cohesive society, specifically the KA1 in the youth field, by increasing self-empowerment and self-esteem. II. EU Youth Strategy addressing the following areas of action: • Engage: by unfolding opportunities for 'learning to participate', raising interest in participatory actions and helping the 40 young participants to prepare for their youth exchange; • Connect: involving participants from 4 small communities, including participants with fewer opportunities offering support measures for them and empowering youths to be architects of their own lives, build resilience and equip them with life skills to adapt in a changing world, contributing to a better social inclusion by involving young people with fewer opportunities. III. Youth Exchanges aim to foster intercultural dialogue and learning and feeling of being European, as well as the development of skills and positive attitudes of young people and breaking down prejudices and stereotypes through peer learning, teamwork and fostering collaboration towards a common goal between young people from Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Czech Republic.
