We aimed to expand biomimicry education in Turkiye and make it accessible to teachers and students by developing high-quality, interdisciplinary learning materials. To achieve this, we conducted student workshops, online conferences, and teacher training sessions, fostering engagement and hands-on learning. We also organized applications in Hungary, ensuring effective implementation and adaptation to different educational contexts. A key objective was to translate all existing secondary school BioLearn modules into Turkish, filling the gap in Turkish-language biomimicry resources. Additionally, we developed two new innovative modules, integrating STEAM, sustainability, and whole-system thinking to enhance critical thinking and creativity. These new modules were not only implemented in Turkiye but also applied in Hungary, expanding the project's reach and impact. By implementing BioLearn 3, we aimed to equip teachers with biomimicry-based educational tools, inspire students to explore nature-inspired solutions, and contribute to Turkiye’s and Hungary’s educational innovation in sustainability and green skills. Ultimately, we sought to foster a new generation who can apply nature’s strategies to solve real-world challenges.
We applied for this project to address the lack of biomimicry education resources in Turkiye and to provide teachers and students with high-quality, interdisciplinary learning materials. Biomimicry is a powerful approach that fosters systems thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, yet it is not well represented in Turkish educational programs. There was a growing need for accessible, structured, and localized biomimicry teaching modules that integrate STEAM, sustainability, and innovation. By joining this project, we aimed to: - Fill the gap in biomimicry education by developing Turkish-language resources. - Equip teachers with the tools to introduce biomimicry concepts in middle and high school curricula. - Engage students in hands-on, nature-inspired learning experiences that connect science, design, and engineering. - Enhance Turkiye’s global competitiveness by fostering green skills and bio-inspired innovation. Through BioLearn 3, we were expanding Nature’s Genius to Turkish classrooms, empowering future generations with the knowledge and skills to create sustainable solutions. The expertise of the Turkish partner also provided an opportunity to integrate new innovative modules in Turkish, English and Hungarian.
