The overall objective of the ENFORCE project was to strengthen the capacity of beekeepers, trainers and related professionals to develop experience-based, innovative and market-oriented activities linked to beekeeping and honey. The project supported a shift from product-centred approaches towards experiential, educational and value-added models responding to economic, environmental and social challenges. ENFORCE aimed to modernise vocational education and training by developing practice-oriented learning materials, experiential methodologies and digital tools integrating honey sensory analysis, gastronomy, gamification and climate awareness. It also sought to improve knowledge transfer by creating a shared vocabulary and methodological framework for describing honey quality, flavours and aromas, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe. Through transnational cooperation, the project built a network of professionals capable of disseminating innovative approaches and strengthening cooperation between beekeepers, gastronomy actors, educators and rural development stakeholders. Overall, ENFORCE contributed to resilience, diversification and long-term sustainability in beekeeping and related value chains.
The project was initiated to address structural gaps in the beekeeping sector and in related vocational education and training systems. Beekeepers increasingly face economic pressure, climate-related challenges and changing consumer expectations, while VET provision often remains focused on primary production and technical skills, with limited attention to experiential approaches, value-added activities and market-oriented innovation. The project identified a clear need to support beekeepers in diversifying their activities through experience-based services, improved communication with consumers and stronger links to gastronomy, tourism and short food supply chains. At the same time, there was a lack of shared methodologies and practical tools for honey sensory analysis, experiential education and gamification, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe. ENFORCE was therefore designed to strengthen the capacities of beekeepers, trainers and related professionals by developing innovative and experiential training content and digital tools. Through transnational cooperation, the project aimed to modernise vocational education, improve knowledge transfer and support sustainable and resilient business models in the beekeeping sector.
