Objectives

CDETB AES wants to progress its Climate Justice Education Strategy by further expanding & developing courses and resources in Climate Justice Education. Climate Justice Education for the Adult Education sector is relatively under-developed (compared to formal education spaces), and this project will support us in addressing this gap. Embedding Critical Literacy into our adult education practice is an initiative that currently in progress in CDETB AES. This project will inform the development of the tutor training in an area that is also relatively under-developed in adult education mainstream provision. In CDETB ESP, we want teachers to enhance and develop capacity in the use of TEL in the prison classroom and to investigate with our European counterparts and the possibilities for in-cell learning. We also want to develop our capabilities in terms of providing education in a way that also prepares learners for the workplace after prison.

Background

This project involves two distinct Adult Education Services, the CDETB Adult Education Services ( across Dublin City) & the CDETB Education Service to Prisons. Both aim to embed transformative pedagogies, promote social inclusion & empower adult learners for their lives and to participate fully in society. This project will provide CPD opportunities to staff to develop critical literacies for climate justice education and other social issues and to address the digital divide and establish dual education approaches to improve employability and reduce recidivism for prisoners. There are many challenges facing the learners we work within and as part of this ongoing and wide-ranging work we have placed emphasis on staff development for climate justice education, critical literacy, TEL and education for the workplace into our adult education practice. We need to draw best practice from EU organisations / practitioners on what are developing areas of work for our Adult Education provision.
