From this project we set out to achieve the following objectives: To improve young people’s self-esteem and develop their coping skills and decision-making capabilities. The group of young people involved in this project all experience economic, social and cultural disadvantage, due to their backgrounds, they can often struggle to see their potential and what they are capable of. This project aimed to increase the confidence of young people and improve their self-esteem, especially as they make decisions linked to their future steps in terms of work and college. For young people to become active citizens in their communities. We wanted to focus on LGBT+ rights and issues with this project, as it’s been a prominent theme within the group. We wanted young people to be able to share their experiences as members of the LGBT+ community and to also learn from another culture and community about the issues they face. Whilst also equipping young people with the right tools and knowledge to be active citizens for the LGBT+ community. For young people to challenge racist behaviours and to learn about other cultures. One of the key elements of this projects focused on learning about new cultures and challenging racism. Within Dublin and Inchicore, there has been an increase in racism and far-right sentiments in the community, part of this project focused on challenging these ideas. We wanted young people to learn about new cultures and open up their understanding of the world and specifically their sense of identity as Europeans. To develop as youth workers and keep up with emerging trends. As a youth service in the process of reigniting our European work, as part of the process, we wanted to work with a partner in North Macedonia who has a lot of experience conducting European youth exchanges.
