We wanted to ensure that Limerick Youth Service (LYS) was demonstrating our mission and values and actively working towards and achieving our aims and objectives as outlined in our Strategic Plan 2023-2027 . Our Mission is to 'Connect with Young People and Support them to Reach their Full Potential.' Our values place young people at the centre of all that we do, prioritise community, collaboration & integration, support learning, creativity & innovation and endorse equality, inclusion and diversity. Project activities, specifically youth mobilities and a study visit were designed and delivered so as to enable LYS to respond to the strengths and needs of the young people that we work with and make a positive difference in their lives. In building connections with local, national and international organisations, the project would enhance a collaborative approach to our work and allowed us to develop new ways of working, embrace connections and share ideas within the field of youth work. Project activities supported us to provide targeted youth work services and supports for more vulnerable young people. We wanted that the project contribute towards our strategic youth work objectives including: - The development of young people's: health and wellbeing; learning and development; active citizenship and engagement in political, social, and civic life; independence, autonomy, and self-expression and positive peer relationships, friendships, connections, and networks. It aimed to engage young people with disabilities and those that are socio-economically excluded. We hoped that the project would contribute towards our strategic youth work and education, training and employability objectives with respect to the development of young people's employability & key life skills such as confidence, self-esteem, communication, problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, resilience, and relationship skills. We wanted that the project reflect our commitment to the promotion and development of international opportunities for young people and volunteers through Erasmus+ programmes. The specific objectives of the project were: 1.Enhance the learning and lives, confidence and self-esteem of young people through: new experiences, food, culture, dance; challenging comfort zones; physical activity; promoting self-care; international opportunities and youth networks. 2.Provide experiences for young people with fewer opportunities and additional needs who may not traditionally participate in international youth work. 3.Encourage young people to explore their local and European identity and citizenship and 4. Strengthen LYS youth worker's and volunteer's skills through: providing opportunities to make wider connections and learn about pathways to different careers and placements outside of local communities; giving a greater sense of EU awareness and EU citizenship and strengthening knowledge and skills regarding youth work thinking and practice.
