Objectives

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) University of Medicine and Health Sciences is an independent, not-for-profit university focused on education and research in the health sciences. RCSI has a significant international outlook, with four overseas campuses and a diverse student body comprising a majority of international students and alumni from nearly 100 countries around the world. The Erasmus+ Programme plays a pivotal role in fulfilling RCSI's mission and advancing its internationalisation objectives. It facilitates the transnational mobility of students and staff, enabling educational and training opportunities and fostering strategic partnerships with Higher Education Institutions in Programme Countries. For this project, a key objective was to deepen our engagement with partners in the European University Alliance in Global Health, thereby increasing meaningful mobility opportunities. We specifically aimed to embrace innovative mobility formats by developing and hosting our own Blended Intensive Programme for the very first time. Furthermore, RCSI's strategy includes promoting student success and early career readiness along with growing new international partnerships to support increased staff and student mobility. The implementation of this project has provided a key enabler to realise our strategic objectives by increasing the number of mobility opportunities for all students and staff at RCSI, increasing our institutional partnerships and evolve our associate partner affiliation in European University Alliance for Global Health. This project also enabled RCSI to continue our contribution to the European education and research areas, particularly through our ongoing support for students displaced from Ukraine. In doing so, we aimed to enhance the quality of our programmes, increase the breadth of student experiences, and support the professional development of our staff, while respecting the principles of non-discrimination, transparency and inclusion.
