Objectives

The University of Limerick organised and coordinated all student (study academic placements and traineeships) as well as staff mobility for teaching and training between UL and partner universities and employers, situated in countries across Europe and worldwide. Short-term mobility and BIPs were also high on the strategy for this project, with many learnings from this area. The team across UL worked to implement the new components of Erasmus+ and to work towards continued implementation of the pillars of Erasmus+. This allowed us to target student cohorts that normally would not be able to avail of mobility i.e. students in Education due to the Irish Teaching Council regulations and requirements as well as students from our Architecture programme whom also benefitted from a short term mobility in the early summer months. Mobility is governed, monitored and evaluated in accordance within the principles of the Erasmus+ Charter for Higher Education. The Erasmus Policy Statement describes UL’s commitment to the programme. This remains posted on the UL Global Website - https://www.ul.ie/global/erasmus/charter. In line with our Charter, we succeeded in our key priorities to increase the number of students interested and applying to the mobility programme. That saw a 22% increase of actualised mobilities since our 2022 contract. However, we did also note a significant increase in the number of students presenting with issues both mental and physical, which resulted in a considerable support infrastructure as well as significant time investment. This finding was both for outbound students and inbound students. 10.4% accessing the UL student counselling service, specifically, were registered as EU International students. Erasmus+ engagement continued to focus on partners working from networks such as the University Alliance EMERGE together with key strategic pathways via the Wild Atlantic Alliance (WAA), YERUN as well as via the European University Foundation network. A key highlight of this contract was a conference in June 2025, where the Erasmus+ team in UL, welcomed 50 delegates and speakers to the campus to discuss the core tenets of many components of the Erasmus+ programme. We were delighted welcome experts as well as our National Agency to speak at expert panels.
