Objectives

Our main objective was to promote responsible consumption through student-centered, cross-border collaboration, integrating environmental awareness with digital and language skill development. We aimed to empower students as active, informed citizens by exploring the environmental impact of plastic, food waste, and clothing production and encouraging them to propose practical solutions. We sought to strengthen European school partnerships, enhance teaching methodologies, and share good practices. A key goal was to embed the SDGs into the curriculum while using digital tools to improve learning outcomes, foster collaboration, and develop students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, and intercultural competences. Through collaboration with peers across Europe, students gain intercultural awareness and experience joint problem-solving, fostering a sense of European citizenship and shared responsibility for sustainability.

Background

We applied for this project to address the urgent need for raising awareness and fostering education around responsible consumption, environmental impact, and sustainability. In our school community, we have observed that young people often lack opportunities to critically reflect on their everyday habits related to plastic, food, and clothing, and to connect these to wider global challenges. Our project responds to this gap by offering practical, cross-curricular environmental education rooted in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly goals 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 13 (Climate Action), 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). At the same time, we identified the need to enhance students’ digital competencies and cross-cultural communication skills, since many have limited experience working in international teams or using digital tools beyond everyday purposes. By engaging in collaborative international projects, students will not only develop environmental responsibility but also strengthen the digital and intercultural competences essential for their future in an increasingly interconnected Europe.
