The project's main objective was to establish clear and practical guidelines for smart working, with the aim of preventing and reducing technostress resulting from the blurring of the line between professional and private life.
In both the European and national contexts, smart working was growing rapidly. However, there were still obvious gaps in terms of both regulation and practical application: while existing laws provided a general framework, there was a lack of operational tools to guide workers and businesses in the day-to-day implementation of agile working. At the same time, many employees were experiencing an increasingly blurred boundary between their professional and private lives, resulting in technostress and reduced overall well-being. Based on these needs, we decided to propose the project, setting two specific objectives: First, starting from current regulations in Italy and Portugal, we aimed to create accurate and easy-to-use tools, such as a SAT, an operational guide and a comparative legislative appendix, to promote the correct use of smart working by employers and workers. The second objective was to promote 'boundary awareness', i.e. to help employees manage the boundary between work and personal time consciously, thus enhancing the potential of smart working and empowering each individual to balance productivity and private life effectively.
