Objectives

The objectives of the "Eco-Tourism Innovations for Rural Development" project, as outlined in the proposal, were as follows: Objective 1: Develop and implement a sustainable tourism strategy, promoting at least three eco-friendly and socially responsible practices and enhancing at least three unique natural or cultural resources in the target areas. Objective 2: Increase knowledge and skills related to sustainable tourism practices and entrepreneurial development for at least 15 representatives from rural tourism organizations in each of the four participating regions, for a total of at least 60 representatives. Objective 3: Raise awareness among at least 500 tourists and 100 local community members about the benefits of sustainable tourism, fostering greater awareness and encouraging active engagement in sustainability practices.

Background

We launched the "Eco-Tourism Innovations for Rural Development" project to address the need to promote sustainable rural tourism in European areas that, despite their rich natural and cultural heritage, often remain marginalized compared to more accessible destinations. These regions face critical challenges such as depopulation, underutilization of local resources, lack of specific skills in sustainable tourism, and limited environmental awareness. Additionally, rural communities often lack the necessary tools to develop eco-friendly tourism strategies that support long-term economic growth. The project responded to these needs by providing practical training and innovative tools to entrepreneurs, tourism operators, local producers, and authorities, promoting best practices to reduce environmental impact, enhance local resources, and strengthen regional and European cooperation.
