PR.I.M.E. arises from a strong commitment to make Erasmus+ and ESC opportunities more accessible and inclusive for all, particularly for people with intellectual disabilities (PWID). The project was designed to foster innovation and internationalisation among partner organisations by strengthening the competences of their staff. This was achieved through targeted capacity-building activities and the development of specific, practical, and innovative tools aimed at supporting professionals in their daily work. These resources help ensure that organisations are adequately prepared to design, manage, and implement high-quality mobility projects that genuinely respond to the needs of participants with intellectual disabilities across the VET, ADU, and YOUTH sectors. At the same time, PR.I.M.E. seeks to contribute to a broader systemic change by encouraging more inclusive practices within Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps. Ultimately, the project aims to increase both the quantity and quality of participation of PWID in international mobility experiences, promoting equal opportunities, social inclusion, and active citizenship.
Despite a slight increase in recent years, the percentage of people with intellectual disabilities (PWID) participating in EU mobility programmes remains low. A key barrier is that organisations often feel they lack the competences to design and implement quality inclusive projects that address the specific needs of this group. This need was first identified within the partnership through an internal analysis, later expanded during the project’s initial phase, highlighting critical challenges in planning and implementing inclusive mobilities. The project primarily aimed to strengthen staff competences and to collect and develop practical support tools to facilitate the planning and delivery of inclusive mobility projects for PWID. In parallel, it addressed the need to improve partnership quality and increase the implementation of high-quality inclusive mobilities. Additionally, the project contributes to encouraging more organisations to involve PWID in mobility opportunities and to engaging EU Institutions in promoting and adopting innovative, accessible approaches to managing inclusive mobilities at a systemic level.
