The University of Macerata is a small university in the central part of Italy. It is among the oldest universities in Europe (it was founded in 1290), and its activities are oriented towards human and social sciences. Among the strategic goals of the University of Macerata is to develop internationalization and open up to the world, increasing and strengthening international networks in the perspective of social cohesion at the international level. As indicated within the Erasmus Policy Statement, internationalization is a key component in the strategic vision of the University of Macerata, which aims to have the international dimension penetrate its teaching and research activities. The main expectation is to increase the quality of teaching and research through dynamic contamination with different academic traditions. The Erasmus+ Program fits well within the framework of the University of Macerata's strategic objectives because it enables students, and academic and technical-administrative staff to acquire more transversal skills and competencies and to increase the quality of teaching. In 2023, the University of Macerata joined the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA), which has a particularly strong profile in the humanities, social sciences and arts, and includes seven other European universities. The overall aim of the European Alliances is to define a long-term strategy for achieving high levels of quality in education, research and innovation, enabling students to choose and attend the courses best suited to their educational paths at the various partner institutions of the alliances, until they obtain their final degree. ERUA also fits into this context with the aim, among others, of promoting collaboration, expanding research partnerships and outlining future common research paths.
