Objectives

Through the implementation of Erasmus+ projects, the University of Calabria aims to fully embrace and embody the central vision and guidelines of the programme. Our main objective is to offer UniCal students valuable opportunities to express their personality and develop their potential in European and international contexts. We believe that this fosters a rich and constructive cultural cross-pollination, which is fundamental for their growth as students, as citizens, and as people. The study environments our students encounter consistently prove to be positive and stimulating, strengthening their civic engagement, environmental awareness, and broadening their horizons. Internally, we have conducted surveys among our students returning from Erasmus+. The results consistently show that participants place great value on the opportunity to integrate part of their academic path with other European countries. Beyond academic results, we are particularly proud of some specific outcomes. For example, students have tackled challenges such as assisting local populations during unforeseen environmental events, demonstrating gratitude and a deep connection to the host country, which welcomed them and led them to contribute in times of need. Their active participation in local events further underscores this integration process. This deep interaction was not limited to cultural involvement but extended to other non-Italian Erasmus students through that splendid mechanism of solidarity that binds people who share a common experience. Furthermore, we have set the goal of promoting environmental awareness and responsible citizenship. Although Calabria's geographical constraints sometimes limit "green" transport options to destinations, we have observed that some students have consciously chosen trains or ships for their journeys within the Erasmus+ programme. This represents a clear indicator of a heightened civic sense and a transition towards more sustainable practices, which we hope will inspire an increasing number of participants. This report also seeks to reflect the growing attention to Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs), with particular regard to the specific value of preparing students who follow distance learning paths, which are characteristic of these new types of mobility. Extra-EU mobility options, which are structured into Long Term (MoST), Short Term, and Traineeship, garner great interest and attention. Particular focus is placed on Short Term mobility, which is configured as a highly structured and specialized training period, dedicated to students with well-defined study paths. Ultimately, the Erasmus+ Programme finds its full realisation in the experiences of the University of Calabria's students. Upon their return, participants do not merely report academic results: they speak of expanded horizons, new perspectives, and innovative ideas. This demonstrates the successful development of active, aware, and responsible citizens, capable of generating a positive impact both in the host and home communities. Our objective was the creation of authentically global citizens.
