Objectives

The University of Turin (UniTo) is a historical and multidisciplinary university that has held a top spot in the rankings of the best Italian universities thanks to its commitment to internationalisation and its careful focus on teaching and scientific research (Erasmus Report 2023: 4° University in Italy for outgoing mobilities - 4° in Europe for outgoing students). The internationalisation process has been strongly encouraged and has the following objectives: • Making the University more competitive in the fields of teaching and scientific research; • Promoting an international culture among teachers, students and administrative staff which, in turn, should lead to an increasingly democratic, inclusive and sustainable society, ready to face the challenges of today’s world. The economic crisis, global warming, a war so close to the European borders and another one in the Mediterranean, have caused a strong discouragement in new generations, making the mission mentioned above even more difficult to accomplish. Promoting diversity, fostering adaptability and a culture of inclusion and sustainability are the main tools to use in order to fight this sense of distrust in today’s society. In this context, Erasmus Mobility, which was created more than 30 years ago, has survived the recent crisis and continues strengthening the feeling of a European identity among the youngest citizens. Erasmus is still a prime opportunity for youngsters to feel European and add an international experience to their CVs, by benefitting from a full and different learning experience. UniTo has chosen to implement and confirm specific actions that support international culture and Mobility, promoting international cooperation as a central element of its Institutional policy and, in so doing, providing an added value that can be enjoyed by the whole academic community. UniTo, in compliance with ECHE guidelines and Erasmus Programme priorities: • ensures equal treatment through fair, transparent and inclusive selection processes; • promotes inclusion of students with fewer opportunities by providing them with Erasmus TOP-UPs and supplementary contributions granted by UniTo; • provides additional support and tutoring to special needs students and to students facing difficulties and emergencies during the mobility • supports teaching and administrative staff mobility to develop the quality of teaching and services offered; • supplies participants with an adequate preparation both during the application and before departure; • ensures that student and staff Mobility is made official through a previously agreed learning/teaching/training Mobility agreement; • ensures recognition for all regularly completed coursework during Mobility for studies and, where applicable, also for traineeship; • provides assistance to incoming participants (visa, residence permit, free insurance, free Italian language courses); • publishes an updated catalogue of courses before the start of the academic year and keeps dedicated web pages in Italian and English updated with information regarding all types of Mobility. • supports the digitalisation process promoted by the Erasmus+ program by the connection to the EWP network and supporting the European Student Card Initiative; • boosts innovation, also thanks to more flexible forms of mobility, such as Blended Intensive Programmes; • supports Erasmus international dimension, developing new synergies and increasing numbers of mobilities with Partner Countries • upholds and promotes environmental sustainability according to the guidelines of the Erasmus programme (green travel incentives) and with internal initiatives coordinated by UniTo Green Office • fosters European Citizenship and participation in democratic life through dedicated events also in the context of the UNITA EU Alliance. Compliance with ECHE requirements throughout all phases of the Mobility guarantees its quality, which is the key for the Project’s complete success and for the promotion of the fundamental values of the European Union and of the Erasmus+ programme.
