Our joining the Erasmus+ Programme is in line with our University's objectives for its strategic development over these three years, especially in terms of the following goals which span all four macro-areas of activity (teaching, research, outreach and services management): for the University of Aosta Valley to consolidate its position within the university system, at both national and international levels, as to the quality of teaching and research; to expand through international exchange while furthering the scope of French as a vehicular language so as to be a hallmark of this university, given both the cultural and geographic distinctiveness of the Aosta Valley Region; and to favour the spread of mindsets and practices oriented towards sustainability, as outlined in the United Nations' 2030 Agenda, the European Union's initiative Horizon Europe, and the Italian government's Recovery and Resilience Facility within the Next Generation EU framework. From its founding, a decided international calling has characterized the University. With regard to teaching, beyond the number of Erasmus exchanges for study and internships which have been activated, significant in respect to the total number of students enrolled, double-degree programmes have been set up with three French and one Spanish university, which involve three different degree programmes (two for primary-degree course, and the third for a second-tier degree course) which constitute one half of the degree courses currently offered at the University. Furthermore, accords have been signed with universities outside the European Union to allow students from any degree course to participate in exchanges with these institutions of higher education. With regard to research, the University has subscribed to various international networks designed to further international exchanges for both students and faculty, as well as for the give and take of respective expertise, among which one may particularly note the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) and the Réseau international des Chaires Senghor. Those indices produced by the Italian entity 'Agenzia Nazionale di Valutazione del Sistema Universitario e della Ricerca' show the University to have achieved excellence in terms of teaching with an international purview. Thanks to its participation in the Erasmus+ Programme, the University intends to guarantee that students may strengthen their command of languages, develop sensitivity through cultural contact so as to favour understanding of and respect for diversity, and widen both their experience and career possibilities through significant international openings. With regard to career possibilities brought about through such study or internships abroad, one may note that some students pursue further their study or careers outside Italy, thanks both to contacts established during their exchange, as well as to an increased awareness of international spheres and a sense of European citizenship. The Erasmus+ Programme further allows even students who do not directly engage in its exchanges to benefit from a multicultural environment on campus, as the result of multicultural interaction with both students and faculty from other universities.
