Objectives

Sapienza University maintains a strong and well-defined strategy for internationalization, which aligns deeply with the principles of the European Higher Education Area and the Erasmus+ program. The university's dedication to global engagement is a cornerstone of its mission, focused on enhancing the educational experience and preparing students for the international job market. The strategy is fundamentally built around the Erasmus+ program as a core driver, using it as the primary tool to promote student and staff mobility, alongside a commitment to the program's objectives of high-quality, inclusive education and attracting international talent. Sapienza's participation in the European Student Card Initiative further demonstrates its dedication to the digitalization and simplification of the program. Moreover, the university is an active member of extensive international networks, fostering collaboration for research projects and the exchange of faculty and researchers. A particularly significant partnership is with the CIVIS Alliance, a European Civic University alliance for which Sapienza is a founding member, funded by the European Union and active since October 1, 2019. The other participating European universities include Aix-Marseille Université, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, University of Bucharest, Université libre de Bruxelles, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Stockholm University, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, University of Glasgow, Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, and University of Lausanne. CIVIS offers students, professors, and technical-administrative staff opportunities for exchange and mobility within an integrated European university space. Within the Alliance, a variety of shared study programs have been activated across the 11 European campuses, which include traditional Erasmus mobility, as well as short-term, virtual, and distance mobilities. Furthermore, the CIVIS Alliance promotes numerous educational projects involving study paths that lead to the issuance of a multiple or joint degree, some of which fall under the Erasmus Mundus Action. In parallel, Sapienza has expanded its enhanced academic offerings, particularly by providing more undergraduate and graduate courses taught entirely in English, which both attracts foreign students and provides Italian students with a more competitive, globally-oriented education. The university also prioritizes support and inclusion, offering continuous assistance for those involved in international activities, with a special focus on inclusion and equal opportunities; this includes measures for students from disadvantaged backgrounds and the promotion of Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) to make international experiences more accessible. Furthermore, Sapienza actively encourages students to utilize eco-friendly transportation and promotes green travel options for mobility programs to reduce their environmental footprint. Finally, Sapienza demonstrates a commitment to quality and sustainability, emphasizing the quality of its educational and mobility processes which are monitored via student satisfaction surveys and learning outcome evaluations. Through these concerted efforts, Sapienza University seeks not only to enrich the skills of its community but also to play a significant role in fostering a more interconnected and knowledgeable European society.
