Objectives

The European University Institute (EUI) was founded with the mission to “foster the advancement of learning in fields which are of particular interest for the development of Europe”. Through its robust doctoral and postdoctoral programs in the social sciences, the EUI aims to contribute to research not only on Europe but also on global challenges. In a world that is increasingly interconnected and in the context of Europe's growing geopolitical challenges, the EUI, widely recognised as a leader in its field, remains strongly committed to its participation in the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme. This aligns both with its mission and with its funding principles, as well as the EUI’s 2019-2024 Strategy which was relevant for the period during which the mobilities took place. This strategy was built on three main pillars: - The training of early-stage researchers - Conducting policy-relevant research - Educating current and future policymakers Through the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme, the EUI seeks to foster collaboration and joint research by expanding the academic networks of its researchers. The primary objective of our participation is to facilitate doctoral researcher mobility, enabling them to gain broader access to academic resources, enhance their knowledge, and advance the successful completion of their Ph.D. theses. Additionally, during this project, the EUI allocated Erasmus+ grants to students enrolled on its Master in Transnational Governance. The EUI actively encourages all outgoing students to engage with faculty members and high-ranking academics at their host universities, enriching their academic experience by exchanging ideas and debating their findings. Erasmus+ also plays a pivotal role in supporting staff mobility, fostering the acquisition of new knowledge, innovative practices, and collaborative methodologies. Staff members increasingly view Erasmus+ mobility as an integral part of their lifelong learning journey, contributing to both personal and professional development. In sum, the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme is a vital mechanism for promoting international collaboration and advancing research at the EUI. By expanding the academic networks and opportunities for both researchers and staff, mobility remains a priority for the Institute, reinforcing its leadership role in social science research and higher education in Europe.
