Objectives

The University of Messina assigns a strategic and cross-cutting role to internationalisation within its institutional missions – education, research, and third mission – recognising it as a key driver to enhance the quality, attractiveness, and competitiveness of the University, while also fostering the opening of the local territory to an increasingly global dimension. Through the implementation of the Erasmus+ Programme, the University aligns itself with the priorities defined by the European Union in the field of higher education, contributing to the creation of a broad, multicultural, and cosmopolitan academic environment that acts as a catalyst for economic development and socio-cultural growth. In this context, UniME actively participates in the advancement of both the European Education Area (EEA) and the European Research Area (ERA). In 2023, the main objectives focused on strengthening the participation of academic staff in the Programme, promoting multilingualism and inclusiveness, and fostering the development of digital competences. To this end, measures were implemented to enhance the dissemination of results and opportunities offered by the Programme, as well as to advance the digitalisation process set out in the European Road Map (Erasmus Without Paper – EWP). The results achieved were consistent with expectations, notwithstanding some critical issues, particularly related to the significant impact of the administrative workload on the offices involved. Looking ahead, the University aims to complete the digitalisation process and the decentralisation of Programme management, by engaging Departments more actively, in order to broaden participation in mobility activities and consolidate the full implementation of digitalisation.
