Objectives

The identity of the academy is the result of a pioneering view carried out in the ‘70’s, in a time when jazz music wasn’t institutionalized in the formative academic system in Europe. This prior profile is the most evident aspect characterizing SJ as institution exclusively oriented to jazz music education and research. In this context SJ still represent today an exception in European panorama of the music high education framework. The internationalization aspects continue to represent one of the main goals of the academy’s activities. Aimed at the excellence and constant raising of learning processes in the music sector, the academy has for years looked beyond national borders as a constituent element of its development process. E+ has allowed an increasingly in-depth discussion on teaching methods between SJ and the European partner institutes, favoring the integration between learning tools and study paths, in a logic of sharing and confrontation on programs, oriented to development and modernization of the artisticmusical sector of European education. Siena Jazz's internationalization strategies are aimed at affirming the idea of cross-fertilization and integration between musical cultures, strengthening dialogue with Italian, European, and non-European partners with diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, and offering new avenues for understanding, deepening, and developing academic and artistic skills. In our view, this is the key to contemporary creativity, and therefore the best way to foster youthful talent and develop the personal skills of young students. In line with the objectives set by EPS in recent years, SJ has confirmed existing partnerships with European institutions, consolidating relationships and creating new cooperation agreements, including with non-academic institutions, partnerships deemed strategic for expanding international collaborations.
