Objectives

The digital divide includes many risks. First one is the marginalization of people aged more than 60 years old towards the digitalization of services and general life and the difficulty to access equal opportunities. The overall objective is to improve the possibility of adults over 60 to access quality training tools, to implement their digital knowledge and soft skills to enhance social inclusion, equality and equal opportunities. Digital literacy of older people can reduce marginalization and enable a more participatory role within society. The goal is to develop a new conceptual and methodological framework to ensure the acquisition of digital skills useful for fostering active participation and autonomy, to promote the responsible use of digital technologies as a reply to the need of senior citizens to be included in the digital society and access its wealth of information, opportunities and knowledge.

Background

EXIT project's purpose was to enhance technology abilities of people aged over 60 years old. The main need addressed was to reduce the risk of marginalization of people over 60 years old in a society like the one we live in where any kind of service and any reply to the needs is digitalized. The need for digital literacy of aged people, generally increasing in number in the Western societies characterized by the incessant process of the ageing of population. Information, economic flow, protection of savings and assets, essential services and participation in social life are increasingly linked to the Internet and more generally to the digital and computer services that permeate every aspect of people's lives, increasing the digital divide in our country. The upskilling and reskilling of adults is an urgent priority to face the evolution of society and multiple challenges, such as digitalization, technological changes and social inclusion that requires a solid foundation of skills and constant updating of skills, knowledge and competencies.
