Objectives

The project aimed to strengthen intergenerational connections and promote a culture of inclusion and empathy around dementia. Its main goal was to improve the well-being and social participation of older adults with dementia through creative and educational approaches that involve younger generations. Specifically, the project sought to: increase awareness and understanding of dementia; foster intergenerational dialogue and mutual learning; train educators and professionals in innovative, person-centered and community-based methods; and create transferable models for inclusive practices. In doing so, the project contributed to the Erasmus+ priorities of adult education, active ageing, participation in democratic life, and equal opportunities for all.

Background

We applied for this project to respond to the growing social and health challenge of dementia, which affects millions of people and their families across Europe. People with dementia often face isolation, stigma, and a lack of community-based support. At the same time, younger generations rarely have opportunities to understand the condition or interact meaningfully with older adults. The partners identified the need to promote social inclusion, empathy, and intergenerational solidarity to improve the quality of life for people with dementia and their caregivers. The project also addressed the need to enhance the skills of educators and professionals working in adult and community education, equipping them with innovative tools to build dementia-friendly and inclusive communities.
