Objectives

By implementing EUF “engaging and empowering EU Families through storytelling, digital guide and card game” the partnership aimed primarily at the development of effective communication between parents and children. With EUF the partnership wanted to design a path of non-formal, inclusive education, to respond to the need of reinforcing family life skills and to train parents to manage original user friendly digital communication tools. EUF supported parents with fewer opportunities in their educational function strengthening their active role in the community. We add that EUF was aimed at families at risk of social exclusion, for which being reached by the project meant access to an educational path that increase the potential for social inclusion. EUF was based on the idea that “Investment in all families, complemented by targeted support for the most vulnerable families at risk of exclusion, is a fundamental building block of cohesive societies” as stated by Eurochild (Oct.2012)

Background

Starting from the centrality of the family in society for social policies (Council of Europe-Dec 2006) the partnership aimed to a good practice at EU level focused on the importance of parents as resource for developping effective communication with their children. Family poverty has increased along with uncertainty for young people and their future and impacted the quality of family relationships. Parents often seem not to be equipped to strengthen communication capacities in the face of social and cultural changes: parents are usually excluded from formal training circuits and that affects even more parents of families with fragilities. In order to face that EUF aimed to: family empowerment, non-formal learning, co-production. Within this framework EUF has addressed needs as: Supporting families in the changes necessary for the healthy growth of its members. Developing communication between parents and children, a basic aspect for an healthy development and growth. Helping parents and adults in sharing new content and new ways of communication with minors. Empowering families to be an active subject in the management of new technologies with children.
