Objectives

The main goal of implementing this project was to foster inclusion, creativity, and intercultural understanding among students by integrating storytelling and traditional tales into the educational environment. Specifically, the project aimed to: Promote values such as empathy, respect, and tolerance through exposure to stories from different cultures; Enable students to express themselves emotionally and artistically, strengthening their confidence, imagination, and sense of identity. Create inclusive and welcoming learning spaces, especially for immigrant, refugee, and disadvantaged students. Encourage collaborative learning and teamwork among students from different backgrounds. Enhance language, literacy, digital, and artistic skills through story-based tasks, performances, and multimedia creations. Strengthen community involvement, especially by involving families and older generations in storytelling and craft activities. Develop Fairy Tale Classrooms and Corridors as permanent learning environments rich in cultural and creative input. In essence, the project aimed to use the universal language of storytelling as a tool for personal growth, cultural exchange, and educational innovation across all participating schools

Background

The project stems from a desire to enrich the imaginations of our students, true digital natives inclined to the widespread use of technology. The primary goal was to develop their creative thinking, linguistic and artistic skills, respond to student needs, and develop an awareness that cultural differences are a genuine cultural enrichment. As Laura Holloway states, "Storytelling is our obligation to the next generation. If all we do is marketing, we are not only doing a disservice to our work, but also to our children and their children. We need to offer them something meaningful by inspiring, engaging, and educating them through storytelling." The shared goal was to create an inclusive, creative, and culturally enriching learning environment through reading, storytelling, and fairytale animation, promoting creativity and emotional engagement; strengthening linguistic and communication skills; encouraging teamwork, socio-emotional development, and intergenerational dialogue; engaging families and the community; and using traditional European fairytales to instill positive shared values.
