Objectives

‘Ruraland’ was part of a training path already started in 2018 through the youth exchange “Europe Land”, continued with the Capacity Building project “Youth Entrepreneurship”, training meetings “Spaesati” held 3 times, and regional projects “Benessere Giovani” focused on youth entrepreneurship. The project was inspiring for CYU and some Italian participants, which led the group to enter a training course on young entrepreneurs to be held in Hungary in February. ‘Ruraland' has been very successful in achieving its objectives, with tangible benefits for both the participants and the communities involved. The challenges encountered offer valuable insights for the optimisation of future projects, especially in the customisation of training activities to better suit the different needs of participants. Specific objectives were achieved in this regard - Broadening the perspective and sense of Europeanisation of young people living in geographically disadvantaged areas through comparison - Through the activities of dialogue between participants, cultural exchange and activities with local entrepreneurs, participants were able to see rural areas in a new light, recognise the economic and social potential they can offer. - Increasing transversal skills: ‘learning by doing’ activities and practical workshops with craftsmen enabled participants to develop skills directly applicable in both personal and professional contexts. - Empowering participants in the organisational field through training facilitated by youth workers who were experts in the subject matter but self-managed by the participants. The participants, guided by youth workers but operating autonomously, acquired organisational skills by directly managing some phases of the project, e.g.: energizer activities, daily reporting, respecting the environment in which they lived and did the activities, dissemination of the activities on social networks, and creation of infographics. - Encouragement to Self-Entrepreneurship: meetings with local entrepreneurs and discussions on start-ups inspired some of the participants, in particular the entire Portuguese group, to consider and pursue entrepreneurship, together they identified the common denominator that drives entrepreneurial work, excluding the money factor, passion and love for one's work combined with the desire to improve oneself is what drives people to pursue their entrepreneurial investment in rural areas.
