The "Think sustainable, act sustainable" project was a youth exchange that took place in Toffia (Lazio) in order to raise young people's awareness on the issue of environmental sustainability by increasing sustainable habits and lifestyles through participation in exchange activities. It involved 20 young people from Italy and Spain. The objectives of the project were: 1. To increase the knowledge of ecology and environmental protection among the 20 participants during the exchange; 2. To develop the spirit of initiative, civic participation and active involvement among the 20 participants during the exchange; 3. To increase the creativity and artistic skills of the 20 participants by finding sustainable alternatives to environmental issues during the exchange; 4. To increase the knowledge of recycling and sustainability of the exchange’s 20 participants. Problems addressed by this project: - Lack of general knowledge about the ecosystem, ecology, recycling among the younger generation; - Lack of civic spirit and interest in environmental issues among the younger generation; - Lack of knowledge and interest regarding the impact of own harmful actions on the environment of small towns’ citizens; - Lack of education on pollution and proper waste management. Needs addressed by the project: - for ecological education among young people; - to gain knowledge about pollution, recycling and ecology; - to motivate young people to actively commit themselves to the environment. To achieve all our goals we used non-formal education techniques in each activity, such as role-playing, creative workshops, brainstorming, debates, theater exercises, team building, ice-breaking, intercultural night, tour in the city… Some of the activities were taken from books promoted by the Council of Europe such as Compass and Compassito. Moreover, we ensured that there was a moment of reflection after each activity to support the learning process of the participants.
