Objectives

The RISE Up project represented a concrete response to the profound social and psychological transformations that have affected young people following the Covid-19 pandemic. Forced isolation and the resulting dependence on digital communication tools have amplified issues related to mental health, exposing the younger generations to phenomena such as anxiety, depression, and fear of the future. Moreover, the widespread use of social networks has often made young people vulnerable to the dangers of cyberbullying, misinformation, and fake news, increasing their sense of disorientation and isolation. With RISE Up, the goal was to turn these threats into opportunities, by equipping participants with practical tools for a more conscious and responsible use of digital technologies, enabling them to become active members of society and promoters of good practices. The project employed an innovative and interdisciplinary educational approach, focusing on the following areas: Mental Health Awareness Participants explored how improper use of technology can impact psychological well-being and learned to recognize signs of emotional distress. Fake News and Misinformation Through targeted workshops, participants acquired fact-checking techniques and developed critical thinking skills to identify and counter misinformation. Cybersecurity and Cyberbullying Prevention Key principles of digital safety were introduced, helping participants protect themselves from online threats and manage situations involving cyberbullying. Blended Learning and Multimedia Production Participants combined theory and practice, using digital tools to create podcasts and radio shows, thereby improving their communication and organizational skills. Activities and Project Impact Participants worked closely with mental health professionals and digital communication experts, gaining essential skills to navigate the online world more safely and mindfully. Through group discussions, they shared experiences and built collective strategies to overcome social isolation. The project led to the creation of entirely participant-produced podcasts and radio programs. This hands-on experience turned them into creators of quality content, actively combating fake news while enhancing their organizational and entrepreneurial abilities. To foster personal growth and interpersonal skills, participants conducted field interviews, learning the value of direct contact and real-world documentation, while developing empathy and critical awareness. The RISE Up project went beyond theoretical knowledge. It left participants with concrete, lasting skills, transforming them into more confident, conscious young people—ready to approach the digital world with critical thinking and a proactive mindset. Thanks to a collaborative, intercultural environment, students realized that the challenges they faced were not just personal or local, but part of a global phenomenon. They learned that dialogue, sharing, and collaboration are essential tools for building a society rooted in respect, tolerance, and mindful use of technology. The impact of RISE Up extended beyond the project itself, leaving participants with the empowering awareness that they can be agents of change, capable of turning digital challenges into opportunities for growth and innovation.
