Objectives

The “Soft Skills 4 Life” project was born from the awareness that many young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, have limited access to mobility experiences and to the development of key transversal skills through non-formal learning methods. Starting from this need, the youth exchange took place in Sandrigo, in the province of Vicenza, involving a group of 12 Italian and 10 Spanish participants, aged between 14 and 18 (originally 11 from Spain, but one participant was unable to travel due to an expired passport). During the exchange, the young people had the opportunity to engage with each other and work together on topics related to the development of soft skills – such as effective communication, teamwork, leadership, autonomy, emotional management, and creativity – through a structured program of workshops, labs, intercultural activities, guided visits, and reflective sessions. A particular focus was placed on digital skills and environmental awareness, in line with European values of sustainability and active citizenship. The project challenged participants to step outside their comfort zones, engaging with new languages, cultures, and traditions. This was especially significant following the long period of isolation and reduced opportunities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The activities, designed in collaboration with the young participants themselves, promoted participatory and hands-on learning, emphasizing the value of non-formal education as an effective tool for inclusion and personal growth. Cooperativa Margherita and Proyecto Kieu, the project partners, have been working for years to support marginalized and vulnerable youth. Through this initiative, they aimed to address the widespread sense of uncertainty many adolescents experience about their future, fueled by economic crisis, weak integration between school and the job market, and lack of opportunities in peripheral areas. The project sought to provide concrete answers to crucial questions such as: Who will I become? What are my opportunities? Can I build a meaningful future here? – by focusing on individual empowerment and social cohesion. Main objectives of the project (in line with Erasmus+ KA1): Development of soft skills: Strengthening transversal competencies among young people (communication, leadership, problem solving, autonomy, initiative, etc.); Promotion of interculturality: Fostering mutual understanding, tolerance, and a sense of belonging to the European Union; Social inclusion: Actively involving young people with fewer opportunities, including those with special educational needs; Guidance and motivation: Increasing participants’ confidence in their abilities and their future; Access to mobility: Creating high-quality mobility opportunities for young people who would otherwise have limited access. Operational objectives: Organize interactive and hands-on activities: workshops, role-playing, and practical exercises for experiential learning of soft skills. Facilitate the exchange of experiences: structured moments of dialogue and interaction between Italians and Spaniards to enrich their cultural and personal background. Monitor and evaluate progress: using qualitative and quantitative tools to measure the effectiveness of the project and the improvement of competencies. “Soft Skills 4 Life” therefore represented a meaningful educational and intercultural experience for all participants, contributing not only to the personal and social development of the youth but also to strengthening the bonds between the involved communities and actively promoting European values.
