Objectives

"Into the Troubles" (ITT) project was designed as an innovative response to the increasing need for tools that empower youth workers to foster meaningful engagement with young people. By focusing on storytelling rooted in embodied practices and deep interaction with nature, the project aimed to provide youth workers with practical methodologies for addressing key challenges, such as mental distress among youth and the need for intercultural understanding. The project revolved around immersive experiences that combined social theater, creative writing, and eco-centric depth psychology. These methods allowed participants to co-create spaces for sharing authentic and collective stories while developing skills for personal and professional growth. Participants were encouraged to engage deeply with their surroundings and peers, cultivating open-mindedness, emotional confidence, and the ability to hold space for others in inclusive and transformative ways. The inclusion of the metaverse as a platform for sharing results further emphasized the project’s innovative approach to reaching and inspiring a global audience. The objectives of the project were as follows: To empower participants by immersing them in nature and facilitating the co-creation of meaningful stories through embodied practices of mindfulness, exercises from depth-psychology, social theater, and writing. To develop attitudes and skills such as presence, sensitivity to physical stimuli, deep listening, and maintaining a nature-centered mindset, enabling participants to establish and sustain genuine contact with youth. To develop and share methodologies for youth workers to create spaces for shared storytelling in multicultural settings. To create as well as disseminate methods and exercises aimed at reducing mental distress among youth through mindfulness practices, social theater, and embodied knowledge. To build a network of youth workers capable of reciprocally sharing and developing their roles within their communities and organizations. To present the outcomes in an inclusive online environment (the metaverse), contributing to an international network of youth workers with a nuanced understanding of local and global contexts. Through these objectives, "Into the Troubles" aimed to empower participants not only to enhance their own skills and perspectives but also to create lasting change in their communities. By fostering collaboration, creativity, and inclusivity, the project offered a pathway for youth workers to inspire and support young people in transformative ways.
