Objectives

The project involved a group of young users from public libraries located in the eastern suburbs of Naples, engaging them in a skills development pathway aimed at enhancing the value of public reading libraries in their area. This initiative supported an ongoing process that has been carried forward in recent years by the association Noi@Europe. Thanks to the project’s activities, the young participants also acquired skills enabling them to become an “activist” and interest group capable of formulating proposals and interacting with policymakers in order to advocate for their needs, particularly concerning public spaces such as libraries. The project, therefore, provided these young people with the tools to become leaders in local non-profit organizations and, more broadly, in the struggles and mobilizations that may arise in the coming years concerning their peers. These two micro-objectives fit into the broader commitment of the association Noi@Europe in the eastern area of Naples—an area marked by high levels of poverty and social and cultural hardship. This commitment has taken shape in the work of promoting and revitalizing public reading libraries in these neighborhoods, identified as central spaces for community building and the well-being of the local younger generations.
