Objectives

The project was conceived with the primary objective of increasing active and inclusive youth participation in sustainability at local, national and European levels, while also raising their awareness of environmental sustainability issues, making them catalysts for change in their communities. Two fundamental goals were set: To create structured pathways to steadily involve Italian and Dutch youth in sustainability-related decision-making processes from local to international levels; To transform environmental awareness into operational skills, providing tools to become agents of change in their respective contexts. The project's innovative approach combined specialized training on climate issues with the acquisition of concrete skills: environmental communication, campaign organization, and techniques for dialogue with local stakeholders. A transnational network was created that allowed young people to compare experiences, exchange best practices and jointly develop proposals for ecological transition, transcending national borders. The ambition was to make participants not just recipients of information, but true multipliers of change.

Background

The ReGeneration Erasmus project was born from the urgent need to address two major gaps in the fight against climate change and the promotion of sustainability: The exclusion of young people from decision-making processes, despite their strong motivation to drive environmental change. The lack of structured opportunities to acquire skills, share best practices, and lead sustainable initiatives at local, national, and European levels. Although institutions and governments have set ambitious climate goals (such as the EU Green Deal and carbon neutrality by 2050), young people, despite being the most vocal in demanding concrete action, are often excluded from policy discussions. Eurobarometer surveys confirm that 39% of young Europeans rank climate among their top three priorities, yet their potential as agents of change remains underutilized. The project successfully achieved its objectives: it empowered youth as key actors in the ecological transition, strengthened their skills in sustainability, digital communication, and advocacy, and fostered transnational collaboration among Italian, Dutch, and other European youth to exchange ideas and scalable solutions.
